Oil will never be replaced in the foreseeable future. Many people wish for the petroleum industry to die, but they fail to realize that the majority of the plastics made, are made from the hydrocarbons contained in petroleum. You can't argue that plastics make up a large portion of the products that we enjoy, i.e. smart phones, tablets, medical devices and are
even used in the manufacture of products that make renewable energy possible. If the petroleum industry collapses and makes the production unprofitable, then our high standard of living will drop to rock bottom.
